(Video Transcript)

In this video we're going to look at some key factors that can really make a difference to improving sperm health for IVF... remembering that the sperm is actually half of the IVF equation.

Men are often sidelined into just producing a semen sample on the day of egg retrieval and thinking that's all there is to it. But really you need to go way way back at least three, six months, to a year... whenever to get those fertility ducks in a row.

You're probably well aware about getting seven to eight hours of sleep a night,, to having enough exercise movement outdoors, fresh air and being careful of cycling in hot Lycra that raises the testicular temperature above the healthy limits. Avoiding recreational drugs, of course, is a, you know, a very basic thing along with reducing caffeine and alcohol, generally staying on the same page and being supportive of your other half.

But bearing in mind that sometimes guys do bear the brunt of managing the financial aspects of IVF so having a budget in mind and knowing how long you can keep going, whether you've got loans to pay off or whether there's a payment plan with your clinic and tuning into that one the sharing that burden is very very important.

Women often have good support networks, men generally tend not to, so having somebody to talk and to confide your fears, your anxieties because being in a supportive role can be incredibly stressful in its own right.

The idea of maintaining a relationship, having a little bit of fun, being able to get out and about to see other people, is crucial to good mental health.
